Deputy Senior Public Defender - The Public Defenders

$366,840 p.a. plus 12% Superannuation plus Conveyance Allowance $18,490 p.a. The Attorney General is seeking applications for a Deputy Senior Public Defender. Role: Public Defenders are specialist barristers who represent disadvantaged (legally aided) defendants in serious criminal cases. They also provide leadership, education and advice to lawyers and policy advice to government. The Deputy Senior Public Defender will primarily appear in Supreme Court trials and appeals and will assist the Senior Public Defender with management, policy, advisory and other delegated responsibilities. The position will be based in Sydney. Term: Under the Public Defenders Act 1995, after completion of a 12-month probationary period, appointment is for seven years, renewable. Eligibility and Selection Criteria: Applicants must be an Australian lawyer of at least five years standing and should have extensive experience in a wide range of criminal trials and appeals. Management experience is highly desirable.
