In practical terms a large part of the role would involve a mix of strategic planning (developing and monitoring plans), project coordination (tracking actions and milestones), stakeholder engagement (working across Navy and Defence), and preparing advice for senior leadership.

Overall, the APS 6 Strategy and Planning Officer plays a key role in enabling the achievement of Navy Training Force objectives by ensuring strategic priorities are effectively planned, coordinated and monitored. Through the provision of strategic advice, project management support and stakeholder engagement, the position contributes to the delivery of a modern, responsive and sustainable training system that prepares Navy personnel to meet current and future capability demands.

About our Team The Office of COMTRAIN provides strategic leadership, governance and coordination of Navy's training and education system. The Office is responsible for developing and implementing training, education, workforce and infrastructure strategies that support the generation of a skilled, capable and future-ready Navy workforce.

Through oversight of key initiatives, stakeholder engagement and strategic planning activities, the Office of COMTRAIN ensures Navy's training force remains aligned with Defence priorities and capable of meeting current and future workforce and capability requirements.

Our Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated and capable professional with demonstrated experience in strategic planning, project management and the coordination of complex initiatives. They will possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare high-quality briefs, reports and executive correspondence for senior stakeholders. The successful candidate will be able to analyse complex information, exercise sound judgement, and provide clear, evidence-based advice to support decision-making.

They will have strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, enabling them to build productive working relationships across a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
